Sustainable travel that supports local communities is one of the reasons Kori exists. This page explains what we actually do — and what we are still working on.
Our approach
Good for Guests, Good for Tanzania
A safari only works if the wildlife is still there and the people who live beside it see a benefit from your visit. Everything below follows from that.
We do not claim certifications we do not hold or numbers we cannot show. What we can promise is how we operate: locally owned, locally staffed, respectful of park rules and of the communities we take guests to meet.
Conservation
Park and conservation fees are included in every itinerary and go directly to the authorities protecting Tanzania's wild places. Our guides keep to designated tracks, respect distance from animals and never crowd a sighting. On the mountain we carry all waste down.
Community
Cultural visits — Hadzabe, Datoga, Maasai — are arranged with the communities themselves, on their terms and with a fee that goes to them. We will always tell you honestly which experiences are genuine and which have become performances.
Local employment
Kori is a Tanzanian company. Our guides, drivers, cooks, porters and office team are Tanzanian, and we favour locally owned lodges and camps when the standard is right for you.
Mountain crews
Porters carry no more than 15 kg, are properly equipped for altitude and are paid fairly. Tipping guidance is given at your briefing so that generosity reaches the whole crew, not only the guide.
Environment
Refillable water in the vehicle instead of single-use bottles, waste carried out of the parks, and vehicle maintenance that keeps emissions and breakdowns to a minimum.
Guests as partners
We brief every guest on park etiquette, photography of people, and appropriate gifts. Travelling well is something we do together.
How you can help
Small Things That Matter
- Bring a refillable bottle — we keep the vehicle stocked with safe water.
- Ask before photographing people, and never pay children for photos.
- Buy crafts directly from the makers rather than from roadside middlemen.
- Tip your crew; it is a meaningful part of their income and we will guide you on amounts.
- Stay on the track and let your guide manage the distance from wildlife — the sighting lasts longer for everyone.
