Serengeti
The stage for one of Africa's greatest wildlife spectacles.
Serengeti National Park is the most recognisable park for a Tanzania safari and the stage for the wildebeest migration, which moves through the ecosystem all year. Big cats, enormous skies and, between late January and mid-March, around 100,000 calves born in a six-week window on the southern plains.

Ngorongoro Crater
A collapsed volcano that became a natural amphitheatre for wildlife.
The crater floor holds one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa — lion, elephant, buffalo, hyena, flamingo on the soda lake and a good chance of black rhino. The rim, at 2,300 m, is cool and often misty; the descent at dawn is one of the great moments of a northern safari.

Tarangire
Elephant herds, ancient baobabs and the Tarangire River.
Renowned for its large elephant herds and iconic baobab trees, Tarangire is at its best from June to October when animals gather along the Tarangire River. It is quieter than the Serengeti and often the first park on a northern itinerary — a strong start.

Lake Manyara
Groundwater forest, flamingos and tree-climbing lions.
A compact park beneath the Rift Valley escarpment: groundwater forest, hot springs, hippo pools and, in season, huge flocks of flamingo. Manyara is famous for tree-climbing lions and superb birdlife, and makes an easy half-day between Arusha and the crater.
